The U.S. Surgeon General has recognized that
obesity is the 2nd leading cause of preventable deaths in the U.S.
and has issued a national call to action to address obesity as a public
health issues.
61% of adults in the United States are overweight
or obese and an estimated 45 million American's diet each year. More
specifically, 25% of adults in the United States are overweight, 26%
are obese, 14% of adolescents (ages 12-19) are overweight and 13%
of children (ages 6-11) are overweight. An estimated 120 million adults
in the United States are overweight or obese.
